Aino Ojala

I am a visual artist and a textile designer working with variable materials including textiles, ceramics, text and drawing.

I’m interested in traditional materials and techniques that require time and patience. My work is based on craft and I see slow making as a counterforce to the pressure to be fast and effective. By making, I search the lost connection with materials and their nature.

For recent years, I have been interested in themes of contact, skin, intimacy, and mental health, exploring hapticity, meanings of materials, their behaviour and relationship with humans.

I live and work in Helsinki, Finland. I received a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts at the Arts Academy of Turku in 2018 and I’m currently studying the MA Program in Textile Design at Aalto University. Besides textiles, sculptures and installations, I have made murals, illustration, video art and contributed to performing arts projects. I have also worked in commission and in collaboration with other artists, designers and researchers.
